JUIF, ANP get one reserved seat each in KP
PESHAWAR: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF) secured another seat reserved for minorities, while the Awami National Party (ANP) won a seat reserved for women in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly through a draw.
An official of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that the draw for the two seats was held at the office of Provincial Election Commissioner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Either the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) or the JUIF was to be allotted the seat reserved for minorities.
Delegations of the PMLN, led by provincial president Amir Muqam, and JUIF, headed by provincial president Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman, appeared along with their candidates Gaur Saran Lal and Gurpal Singh, respectively.
The PMLN delegation submitted a written withdrawal in favour of the JUIF candidate, adding a seat to the latter’s tally in the provincial assembly.
A draw was also held between the ANP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTIP) for a seat reserved for women.
The ANP delegation was led by MPA Nisar Baz, while the PTIP delegation was led by Arbab Waseem Hayat. ANP candidate Shahida Waheed and PTIP candidate Somi were also present.
Following the draw, ANP candidate Shahida Waheed was declared successful.
The formal announcement on the success of both candidates will be made by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
