Teachers’ strike against privatisation of schools enters second week
LALAMUSA: The ongoing teachers’ strike against the privatisation of schools has entered the second week in Gujrat. After initially suspending regular educational activities, the striking teachers have now halted all school operations, including crucial dengue prevention efforts. The strike, which began last week, was sparked by opposition to several controversial decisions made by the authorities. Among the contested issues are changes to leave encashment policies, revisions to pension rules, the abolition of Article 17A, and most notably, the planned privatisation of public schools in the district.Wearing black armbands as a symbol of protest, teachers across the district have taken a firm stance, demanding the government reverse these decisions.
