SUKKUR: Khairpur Police on Sunday arrested two people for poisoning to death their 13 family members over refusal of their marriage proposal.
The police claimed that the daughter and nephew were involved in the death of Gul Baig Brohi who along with his 12 family members died a month ago allegedly after consuming poisonous milk in village Haibat Khan Brohi of Pir Jo Goth in Khairpur.
Khairpur SSP Dr. Samiullah Soomro said the Chemical Laboratory Sukkur (Rohri) confirmed the presence of intoxicating substances and poison in the bodies of the deceased.
He further said that he personally initiated the investigation to resolve the mysterious deaths of 13 family members, including Gul Baig Brohi, his wife, five sons, three daughters, and his brother.
He said since it involved the deaths of innocent children among others, he
proceeded with great caution and ensured those responsible are brought to justice.
He said that after the thorough investigation, Shaista, daughter of deceased Gul Baig and Ameer Bux Brohi s/o deceased Muhammad Bux Brohi and nephew of Gul Baig, were taken into police custody, where both the accused confessed to their crime of poisoning to death their family members over refusal of their marriage proposal.
The SSP further said that accused Ameer Bux Brohi wanted to marry his cousin Shaista, however Shaista’s parents were against their marriage.
He said the accused later convinced Shaista that their marriage would be possible after the death of Gul Baig.
Ameer Bux handed over poisonous chemical to Shaista who mixed it with flour and milk which caused the death of 13 family members.
The SSP said all family members after consuming the poisonous food fainted and died, adding that Muhammad Bux Brohi, father of accused Ameer Bux Brohi, was also among the dead.
He said that an FIR on behalf of the state had been registered against both the accused at Baradi Jatoi Police Station, adding that further investigation was underway to ensure complete justice.
