Amends to Ombudsman Act challenged
PESHAWAR: A lawyer here on Saturday moved the Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Ombudsman (Amendment) Act 2024.
Ali Azeem Afridi Advocate filed the petition in the high court to challenge the amendments to the act.
In his petition, he took the plea that KP Ombudsman Jamal-ud-Din retired in 2023 but he continued to serve, therefore, it was an illegal act.
According to the petition, the provincial government amended the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Ombudsman Act 2010 to benefit a particular person.
He said the government amended sections 3 and 4 of the act, adding that Sections 1 and 5 were incorporated in the sub-clause II of the act.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the amendments null and void as these were meant to benefit a certain person.
