MANSEHRA: A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) local office-bearer on Monday urged the federal government to introduce a uniform electricity tariff structure to ease the financial burden on both domestic and commercial consumers.
“A consumer who slightly exceeds 200 units ends up paying multiple times more in electricity bills, which is unjust. This system must be reformed to provide relief to people already struggling with financial hardship,” Salauddin Khan, told reporters here.
He said that PMLN President Nawaz Sharif had initiated major development projects in the past to combat poverty and steer the country toward prosperity.“The current electricity tariff, which increases sharply after consumption exceeds 200 units, should be brought in line with the lower slab rates to ensure fairness,” he added.
Salauddin said that the PMLN had promised to reduce high electricity tariffs during the 2024 general elections campaign to provide meaningful relief to the public.“We are optimistic that the government will deliver on this promise and revise the tariff structure,” he said.
The PMLN office-bearer asked the government to end prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding in the district in such a sizzling heat wave, as people, particularly children and the elderly ones, were suffering from different ailments.
