Pavement plight
The pavements in most cities of Pakistan are largely controlled by the encroachment mafia, often hindering the lives of pedestrians. If one walks on a pavement in the centre of a city, they would observe illegal stalls, cabins, shops, and other networks of vendors simply within the span of a few steps. Pavements are supposed to symbolize a city's attempts at being more accessible and easier to navigate for all residents, especially the elderly.
However, the huge crowds of people on the pavement stalls and the heavy traffic on our roads only makes matters worse. The authorities concerned should take pragmatic measures to clip the wings of the encroachment mafias. They must also take swift action against the officials who are involved in illegal encroachment activities.
