Iranian envoy visits ICU

PESHAWAR: Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam, on Thursday visited the Islamia College University (ICU) Peshawar to explore avenues forenhancing literary and academic cooperation between his country and Pakistan.

The ambassador met Vice-Chancellor Dr Ali Mohamad Yousafzai and discussed matters of mutual interest. The meeting was also attended by Ali Banafshe Khaw, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Hossein Chaghomi, Director General of the Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Arbab Zahid Dawood, Registrar of ICU, Dr. Shabir Ahmed Kakakhel, Admin Officer; and Shabir Ahmed, Deputy Registrar.

The ambassador, who has vast experience in scientific, educational, and technical fields, expressed Iran’s readiness to increase collaboration between the educational institutions of both countries.He emphasized Iran’s commitment to sharing its advancements in these fields with Pakistani universities.

The ICU vice-chancellor stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in the education sector, highlighting the potential of leveraging the deep-rooted cultural, religious, and social ties between Iran and Pakistan.

Discussions included a range of mutual interests, such as teachers and students exchange programmes, joint cultural and sports initiatives, and the establishment of an “Iranian Corner” at the ICU to promote the Persian language and culture.In a gesture symbolizing the growing friendship, Ambassador Amiri planted a sapling on the ICU grounds.
