KU VC distributes scholarship cheques worth over Rs14.4m among 63 students
The vice chancellor (VC) of the University of Karachi (KU), Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, on Friday distributed cheques for the Sindh Higher Education Commission (Sindh HEC) Indigenous Scholarship for MPhil and PhD (2023-2024) worth more than Rs14.4 million among 63 students.
The KU Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO) organised the cheque distribution ceremony at the KU Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium.
The varsity had received a total of 162 applications from students of arts and social sciences for the scholarship, of whom 25 applicants were called for an interview by the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences, and 11 selected for the award of scholarship.
A total of 92 applicants from the Faculty of Science were selected for the award of scholarship. Many applicants belonging to other faculties were also awarded scholarship.
Speaking at the ceremony, the KU VC said talented students were the nation’s true capital. He observed that the scholarship encouraged students and developed their passion for teaching and research.
He appreciated the Sindh HEC saying that its financial support to students and the provision of scholarships for the promotion of higher education was commendable.
A student from the mass communication department, Arsalan Shahzad, who received the scholarship, presented a gratitude speech, saying scholarship had been a true blessing that eased his financial burden of semester fees. He thanked Prof Iraqi and the Sindh HEC for awarding the scholarship.
Earlier, SFAO Incharge Prof Dr Ziasma Haneef Khan shared that they had managed to award all the scholarships in a short period to provide relief to the students during Ramazan.
