Social activist and Community Police Karachi (CPK) chief Murad Soni has been appointed justice of peace for a period of two years in District East of the city.

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 22 of the Criminal Procedure Code [CrPC], 1898, the Government of Sindh is pleased to appoint Murad Ali Soni as justice of peace within the local/territorial limits of District East for a period of two years with immediate effect and with the condition that he shall render his services/duties in accordance with Section 22 A & B of the CrPC 1898 and with the ‘Judge of Peace (Appointment, Duties, Functions and Conducts) Rules, 2017’, and shall not display the logo of justice of peace on his vehicle,” reads a notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Memon.

The appointment of Soni takes into account his commitment to public service. It also recognises his efforts under his leadership to improve security in the city through the CPK initiatives. He was earlier honoured with a commemorative shawl by the Sindh Boy Scouts, and was felicitated as an honorary member by the Karachi Press Club.

During a ceremony at the Governor House, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori honoured Soni with a gold medal and acknowledged his services for social welfare. Under Soni’s leadership, the CPK has initiated a practical project to enhance security throughout the city by installing high-definition cameras on the streets.

With the cooperation of local communities, the aim of this initiative is to monitor criminal activities effectively, with a focus on reducing street crime and home burglaries. This project, driven by Soni’s leadership, and supported by dignitaries and Governor Tessori has shown significant progress since its inception.

The cameras within the jurisdictions of more than 15 police stations across the city have been equipped as a result of the CPK’s efforts. This surveillance has led to a noticeable decrease in crime rates, with a 60 to 70 per cent reduction in street crime and home burglaries in the monitored areas.

Soni expressed his gratitude to the provincial government and the police department for providing the CPK with office space within police stations. As he takes on his new role as justice of peace and continues his efforts to make the city clean, green and safe, the CPK remains committed to its endeavours under his leadership.
