ISLAMABAD: The core committee of the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) convened on Friday to review the contents of US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu’s testimony before the Congressional committee and the subsequent statement made.

It was emphasised in the meeting that the latest reaction of former Pakistan ambassador to the US Asad Majeed to Lu’s remarks, on behalf of the core committee, is crucial in determining the facts. The meeting decided to celebrate Pakistan Day with full enthusiasm, with celebrations scheduled to take place here Saturday (today).

Additionally, the committee approved the organisation of a rally in Islamabad on March 30 to protest against rigging and deviations from the Constitution in the country. Similarly, a public meeting will be organised in Karachi on April 21. Furthermore, the committee decided that a special press conference would be held on March 25 to discuss the country’s economy, the new economic package from the IMF, and its impact on the people. The meeting received a briefing on the court proceedings thus far regarding cases against founder chairman Imran Khan and the possibility of his acquittal.

It viewed the acquittal of the founder chairman in several cases as a positive development and stressed the importance of the judiciary expediting decisions on appeals against his convictions and cases.

The core committee also confirmed that senior leader Sardar Latif Khan Khosa’s residence will be the venue for Saturday’s gathering of Punjab MPAs as part of preparations for the upcoming Senate elections.

Furthermore, the meeting reiterated the demand for a thorough investigation into the alleged election rigging and the purported manipulation of the people’s mandate. It was underscored that the PTI’s information secretary is the sole authority responsible for publicising the decisions of the core committee.
