Factory worker killed, another wounded by muggers in Korangi

A factory worker, who was the father of four children, was killed and another wounded over offering resistance during a mugging bid in the Korangi area on Thursday.

After his death, the number of the citizens killed during mugging attempts in Karachi has risen to 36 in the ongoing year. The incident took place near the National Refinery in Korangi where robbers shot two people, one of whom died and the other sustained injuries.

Police said two unidentified suspects were responsible for the firing who escaped after committing the crime. The victims were taken to a hospital where one of them was pronounced dead. The deceased man was identified as 35-year-old Fayyaz and the injured man as 47-year-old Fawad Bukhsh.

The body was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police said the victims were employees of a local factory and were returning home after work when the incident occurred.

The deceased man was the third among seven siblings and he had four children. His youngest child, a daughter, was born 11 days ago. A case has been registered. On Wednesday, a father of five children lost his life to armed muggers.

The latest incident unfolded on Karsaz Road, where two armed robbers on a motorcycle attempted to rob a citizen also riding a motorcycle. Upon noticing the police arriving at the scene, the assailants resorted to gunfire. The citizen was struck in the chest.

During the ensuing exchange of fire, one of the robbers sustained injuries and was subsequently apprehended by the police. A weapon was also recovered from his possession. However, his accomplice managed to evade capture. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Nazir Sultan, while the injured assailant was identified as Sher Ali.

Speaking to the media, the brother of the deceased disclosed that Nazir Sultan worked as a carpenter near Bloch Colony and was en route to his residence in Surjani Town when the incident occurred. Sultan left behind four daughters and one son.
