Water supply to be interrupted due to KE’s maintenance work
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Friday announced a temporary interruption in water supply to Karachi during the weekend, citing maintenance work by the K-Electric (KE) at one of its grid stations near the Hub Dam.
According to a statement released by the KWSC, maintenance activities were scheduled to take place on the Velika Grid for electricity on February 24 and 25. This would necessitate a complete shutdown of the Velika Grid, resulting in the cessation of electricity supply to all feeder stations connected to the pumping station and filter plant. The maintenance work would commence at 8am on February 24 and was expected to conclude by 6pm the following day, resulting in a total shutdown duration of 48 hours.
A spokesperson for the KWSC highlighted that as a consequence of the maintenance work on the electricity infrastructure, the city was anticipated to experience a shortage of 200 million gallons of water from the Hub Dam. In light of this situation, the KWSC had urged citizens to store water and utilise it judiciously to minimise inconvenience.
