Empowering communities: 25 women trained in digital skills

PESHAWAR: Twenty-five women from Afghan refugees and host communities of the provincial capital were awarded certificates after completion of a two-month digital skill course at the Human Resource Centre of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) here on Wednesday.

The two-month training on “Amazon Virtual Assistant & English Literacy” was organized by the SRSP in collaboration with UNICEF under the Social and Economic inclusion of the poor and vulnerable from the Afghan hosting communities.

The graduates on the occasion lauded UNICEF and SRSP for selecting the trainees in a proper way and providing them with an enabling environment.“It was a wonderful experience. The trainees were selected in a transparent manner and an enabling environment was provided during the training. and I even started earning through online business even during the training,” Nazila, an Afghan refugee, told the award-giving ceremony amid applause.

Radoslaw Rzehak, chief of UNICEF Peshawar Office, Masood Ul Mulk, chief executive officer SRSP, Dr Iqbal and Neelam Khattak of Elementary and Secondary Education Department and Ayub of Social Welfare Department and other officials of SRSP attended the ceremony.

Sharing her experience, Tabassum Batool from the hosting communities said that her communication skills improved a lot after the training. “Now I am facing no problem dealing with clients and have started earning through the online business,” she said.

She urged UNICEF to launch advanced digital training in collaboration with the SRSP.Uzma from Peshawar said she had learnt a lot during the two-month training. “It was a great experience,” she said, adding, she had started business along with her sister and they were earning a handsome amount through online business.

Naila, a special person from Nowshera, thanked UNICEF and SRSP for launching the programme. “I used to consider myself a burden on my family. But things have changed after the training as I am contributing to earning a livelihood for my family.

Speaking on the occasion, Radoslaw Rzehak appreciated the SRSP for organising such a useful programme. “It is nice to see women are getting training in such a viable environment,” he said. He maintained that his collaboration with SRSP would continue. He said such trainings were important for social cohesion and economic development of the communities as well as the country.

Earlier, Masood Ul Mulk, shed light on the initiatives of SRSP and the human resource centre. He said that thousands of youth had acquired training at the centre over the years. He hoped the digital training would help create more opportunities for the graduates. He also thanked the UNICEF representative and other guests for attending the ceremony.
