Former MQM leaders Raza Haroon, Anis Advocate join PPP
Former senior leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Raza Haroon and Anis Advocate along with their supporters on Friday announced joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) after meeting PPP Co-Chairperson and former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi.
The former president welcomed Anis, Haroon and their colleagues to the PPP. During the meeting, the former MQM leaders discussed the proposed Charter of Karachi for creating an environment of development, prosperity, peace and reconciliation in the metropolis.
The former president said the proposed charter would have a far-reaching impact on the future of Karachi. He added that the PPP was the party of the people of Karachi.
“We are fighting together with the people of Karachi to restore the lights that were taken away from the city by the enemies of peace and the merchants of hatred," Zardari said, adding that the PPP would come into power in the Centre after getting votes from the residents of Karachi.
He said the future of Karachi was as bright as that of Dubai. He maintained that Karachi would become an economic hub as strong as Dubai due to foreign investment.
Zardari said that owing to its unique geographical location, Karachi would prove beneficial to investors from all over the world.
The former president also talked about the 10-point election manifesto of the PPP that was recently unveiled by the party chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The PPP co-chairman said that after coming into power, the party would launch welfare projects for every city and town of Pakistan, including Karachi, and provide extraordinary relief to the public amid the period of hyperinflation.
