MINGORA: Swat Agricultural University celebrated International Mountain Day here on Monday.
Addressing the participants of an event at the varsity, Dr Muhammad Jamal Khan highlighted the importance of land and water in mountainous areas.
“Mountains yield fruit, vegetables, fodder, and water sources, and create opportunities for people to travel and engage in tourism,” he added.Prof Dr Farmanullah shed light on the ecosystem, insect system, and forests of the hilly areas, discussing the effects of mountains on the lives of people.
Vice Chancellor of Swat Agricultural University Prof Dr Dawood Jan, while addressing the participants through a video link, stated that every year, the International Day of Mountains is celebrated globally on December 11.
The purpose of celebrating the day is to improve the condition of the mountains and the populations living near the mountains.To raise awareness and maintain their natural environment, considering the first impact of climate change on the residents of the hilly areas, he announced scholarships related to climate change in Mountain Agriculture, mentioning that every year, 48 students would be given fully funded scholarships at the University of Agriculture.
