‘Misconceptions biggest hurdle to polio drive’
LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir has said that baseless apprehension about harmful effects of polio drops were the biggest impediment in total elimination of this disease from Pakistan.
The minister observed this while addressing the inaugural session of a two-day Capacity Building Workshop on Social and Behaviour Change for District Health Officers of Punjab, here Tuesday. The workshop was arranged in collaboration with UNICEF.
Dr Jamal said that the health education officers could play a pivotal role in bringing about behavioural change among the masses.
He urged the participants to work for removing misconceptions about polio shots as well as about vaccine being given to young children against various other diseases.

The first convocation of Allied Health Sciences Graduates was held under the management of King Edward Medical University here Tuesday. The special guest of the convocation was Provincial Health Minister Prof Dr Javed Akram.
Dr Muhammad Zeeshan Sarwar took the oath of service to the people of Allied Health Sciences. Health Minister Prof Dr Javed Akram distributed gold medals and degrees to the prominent students. KEMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz instituted performance and various programmes were highlighted in detail.
