LANDIKOTA: The Pakistan Customs authorities on Thursday foiled two separate bids to smuggle foreign currency to Afghanistan, officials said.
Deputy Collector, custom enforcement, Hassan Ali said that on the directive of Chief Collector Customs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Saeed Akram said that they had increased checking at Torkham border on the directives of higher authorities.
He said the enforcement officials stopped a passenger at the departure hall and during the search recovered 3.8 million Saudi riyals from his possession.
He said they also recovered $10,000 from a passenger being smuggled to Afghanistan. He said a child labourer was used as a smuggling tool to transport the currency to Afghanistan.
Hassan Raza said they had recovered a huge amount of foreign currency being smuggled to Afghanistan over the last few weeks.It may be mentioned here that more than thousands children, including 400 minor girls, were involved in smuggling at Torkham border.
