Pakistani envoy to Jordan sees improved bilateral relations in coming months

AMMAN: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Jordan Lt-Gen Shafatullah said the relations between the two countries would experience a new dimension in the coming weeks with improved collaboration in economy and other sectors.

Expressing his views in an interview and address to a ceremony held in connection with Pakistan Day, he said Pakistan was the only nuclear power among the Muslim countries and had always supported the Arab brethren while extending cooperation to ensure regional peace.

Stressing the need for further enhancing the trade ties, he said Pakistan would export 0.4 million tonnes of wheat annually to Jordan, regarding which the Jordanian government was expected to sign an agreement with the Punjab government soon.

The ambassador said around 18,000 Pakistanis were currently employed in Jordan, adding that direct flights between Amman and Islamabad as well as establishment of Pakistan-Jordan Joint Business Council would be realised in the current year.

He said both countries were playing a pivotal role in combating terrorism, adding that Pakistan and Jordan were extending cooperation to each other and sharing intelligence for the purpose.
