Karan Johar apologizes for hurting the sentiments of people of Northeast India
Famed director made some remarks in his Instagram video about the Assamese 'Japi', traditional hat made of bamboo, dried leaves and pieces of coloured cloths which his co judge Kirron Kher was wearing on the set of India’s Got Talent.
After facing a backlash for his comments, Indian filmmaker Karan Johar has apologized for unintentionally hurting the sentiments of northeastern people of India.
Famed director made some remarks in his Instagram video about the Assamese 'Japi', traditional hat made of bamboo, dried leaves and pieces of coloured cloths which his co judge Kirron Kher was wearing on the set of India’s Got Talent.
The reality TV show includes Kher, Johar and Malaika Arora as judge.
Karan got severely criticized for making fun of the culture and traditional headgears of the people of northeast India.
Replying to an Assamese journalist on twitter, the director wrote, "You are absolutely right and I would like to apologise if I have hurt any sentiments.
It was purely unintentional and came from a place of no knowledge which is absolutely no excuse. I am extremely sensitive to the different cultures of our land and I am very sorry."
The 46 years old also added that he had deleted the Instagram video.
