Australia beat South Africa in first Test by 118 runs

Durban, South Africa: Australia defeated South Africa by 118 runs to win the first Test at Kingsmead on Monday.

South African resistance on the final day lasted just over a quarter of an hour before Josh Hazlewood claimed the final wicket when he had Quinton de Kock, on 83, out lbw with the hosts dismissed for 298.

Brief scores: Australia 351 and 227 v South Africa 162 and 298 (A. Markram 143, Q. de Kock 83; M. Starc 4-75, J. Hazlewood 3-61).

Result: Australia won by 118 runs

Series: Australia lead the four-match series 1-0.
