Renowned Hollywood director Steven Soderbergh, while talking to press on the latest premier of his film ‘Unsane’ revealed the truth behind using an iPhone to shoot the psychological thriller film.
The acclaimed director said that he will have problem returning to traditional film making techniques. He is mightily impressed by iPhone’s small size and superior image quality.
The portability of the device has allowed him to shoot complex scenes without causing destruction to walls and ceilings.
“Unsane”, which premieres at the Berlin film festival, was shot over just two weeks - way shorter than the months a movie usually takes.
There were slight compromises that had to be made on the image quality due to the handset’s sensitivity to vibrations.
The director said that the portable shooting device has ‘allowed the gap between the idea and the execution to shrink and therefore, allows more and better execution of ideas’.
He called the device a ‘game changer’ and believes the footage looks like ‘velvet’.
With a small device, you catch up quickly on the impulse of being creative.
Unsane is a psychological thriller and was shot last summer, suggesting that the iPhone used is either 7 or 7 Plus.
Unsane has made a debut alongside 400 other films but didn’t qualify for the event’s main prize, the Golden Bear.
