Horror struck when a toddler tripped on to one of the tracks of Milan’s busiest subway stations but was saved soon after by  a teenager who put his own life in jeopardy to bring him to safety.

In a CCTV footage that came to surface, a two and a half year old toddler was seen running and stumbling down on the tracks of Milan’s Repubblica metro station, known to be one of the city’s busiest tracks, only a minute before the train was due to enter.

The footage showed a group of frenzied bystanders, not knowing what to do when a daring teenager identified as Lorenzo Pianazza, entered the scene, and without caring for his life jumped onto the tracks to rescue the infant from the face of the impending terror.

Talking to local media Lorenzo has stated that: “I saw that at the arrival of a train there was a minute and a half, I knew I could do it, and no one else was moving, they were stuck, stopped and looked on.”

Watching the scene unfold on the CCTV camera, the station manager during this time, Claudia Flora Castellano, immediately pressed the red button that stopped the train from proceeding on to the tracks.

The news of the heroic acts of Claudia and Lorenzo had soon reached the ears of Milan’s mayor, Guiseppe Sala who was significantly impressed by their actions.

"I would like to … thank you both on behalf of the whole city of Milan,” said the mayor in a tribute paid to the heroic pair.

Claudia and Lorenzo had also met with the parents of the child who expressed their immense gratitude for saving the life of their child.
