Zil-Haj moon not sighted in S Arabia, Eid-ul-Azha on Sept 1

RIYADH: The Zil-Haj crescent was not sighted on Monday evening in Saudi Arabia, which means Eid-ul-Azha will be on September 1 (Friday) this year, Arab media reported.

The Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia said, 'Zul Hijjah crescent not sighted'. The court will meet again on Tuesday to issue a decision regarding the moon sighting.

Based on the sighting of the moon, the month of Zil-Hajj in Saudi Arabia will begin on Wednesday, August 23.

Therefore, August 31 will be the (Day of Arafah), and September 1 will be the first day of Eid-ul-Azha.

While in Pakistan, Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today for sighting of Zil-Haj moon. Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will chair the meeting.

According to astronomical parameters, there is a slight chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of Aug 22, i.e. on 29th of Ziquad, 1438 AH, an official of Met Office said on Tuesday. According to climate record, the weather is expected partly cloudy/cloudy in most parts of the country on the said day.
