LEICESTER: Pakistan suffered another defeat, this time from Sri Lanka with a low margin of 15 runs. Thus their journey in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 ended with seven losses in a row, here on Saturday.
Chasing a modest total of 222, Pakistan were all out for 206 in 46.4 overs with Asmavia Iqbal stranded on 38. She could have achieved a victory for Pakistan if she was run out of partners.
However, Nain Abidi top scored with 57 off 68 balls, hitting nine fours whereas Asmavia struck five boundaries in her 45-ball innings.
Left-arm spinner Chandima Gunaratne captured four wickets for 41 runs while seamer Ama Kanchana claimed two for 31.
Earlier, a 76-run sixth wicket partnership between Manodara Dilani Surangika and Eshani Kaushalya (28) lifted Sri Lanka to 221 for seven after they were reeling at 98 for five.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka made a disastrous start losing both their openers for a mere 18 runs after medium-pacer Diana Baig struck twice.
However, it was Surangika who rescued the team with her brilliant innings of 84 runs in 111 balls, laced with nine boundaries.
Diana bagged three wickets for 41 from her quota of 10 overs.
