Pakistan set 261 for England in first One-dayer

SOUTHAMPTON: Pakistan made 260 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs  against England in their first One-day International of the five-match series here at The Rose Bowl on Wednesday.

After winning the toss, captain Azhar Ali opened the innings with Sharjeel Khan, who fell to Mark Wood for 16 and then Mohammad Hafeez to Joe Root for 11.

Pakistan were 52 for two when Azhar was joined by Babar Azam and then both added 61 runs for the third wicket before Azhar completed his eighth half-century in ODI cricket.

However, Babar was out leg before by spinner Adil Rashid. He made 40 off 42 balls with four boundaries.

Then, Azhar found another good partner in Sarfraz and both added 65 for the fourth wicket stand. But Azhar was caught by Moeen Ali off Adil for 82. He hit nine fours during his 110-ball innings.  

Later, Sarfraz and Shoaib added 46 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was dismissed caught by Rashid off Plunkett for 17. Then just four balls later, Sarfraz also departed after making a fine 55 off 58 balls with three fours. He was caught by Wood off Chris Woaks.

Mohammad Nawaz and Imad Wasim remained not out on 17 and 18, respectively when the innings ended.
