King Charles came from ‘place of anger’ over response to Earl Spencer

King Charles acted in haste as he responded to Earl Spencer’s book, says an expert.

His Majesty, who gave a firm response over an excerpt from Spencer’s book about Princess Diana’s death, should not have reacted in anger.

Expert Andrew Morton tells The Telegraph: "With [Earl] Spencer's book, he, within an hour or so, issued a statement.

"I would have thought that sensible courtiers would have said to him, 'Hang fast, sir, because it's only a book - these things will pass'. But I think it's a sign of how angry he was that this statement was written almost contemporaneously, and in a way, it's a statement written for an audience of one, and that's King Charles."

This comes as Ear Spencer said: “This book is a celebration of an extraordinary woman from a brother’s point of view. And as a brother, I have every right to write about my sister.”

"But I would like to explain that I was not setting out to do a hit piece on the King at all. The comments [from Charles] that I’ve included in the book are totally in context.”
