Sombr breaks silence on being branded a 'nepo baby'

Somber is setting the record straight about his "nepo baby" tag.

The Back to Friends singer, whose father is an event planner and mother works as PR executive at The Foundation for AIDS Research, opened up about the speculations that his parents have celebrity connection in a recent interview for the October 2026 issue of ELLE magazine.

Sombr, whose real name is Shane Boose, said, "I will forever respect my dad and my mom. I'm so f****** proud of them, because to devote your life to something like that is so incredible and important."

He continued, "To think that that could help me get signed or become a big artist because my dad devotes his life to fight AIDS is just incredibly insane."

The 21-year-old expressed his frustration over being labelled as nepo baby while the term is used for a person who benefits from celebrity parent and that's not the case for him.

The Undressed star said, "Every time I see an artist blow up, I'm like, 'Okay, this artist is great. I love them so much. They're so talented.' Three months later, somehow, they're a nepo baby."

Sombr also confessed that he does not like being labelled as "famous."

"It's just f***** lame," he exclaimed.

"It's self-centred to call yourself famous. I don't even think of it as a positive thing. How can I describe being in the spotlight when I don't always want to be seen?"

The rising star, who debuted his album in August 2025, is all set to pay tribute to the late George Michael at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.
