Why Martha Stewart thinks she's the 'boss' of lifestyle?

Martha Stewarts opened up about why she thinks she is the "boss" in the lifestyle industry.

The 85-year-old entrepreneur spoke to Richard Christiansen about his new book, Flamingo Estate Pleasure Principles: An Almanac from the Garden, at a 92NY event and joked that she always tries to stay one step ahead of the other lifestyle moguls.

Either it's about starting her new rose garden or a fashion trend, the mogul admitted she works towards shielding her image because, she remarked, “I’m the boss.”

As Stewart planted a new rose garden at her 63-acre estate in Maine, which also grows roses named after her, she noted of the Martha Stewart Rose, “It’s a sturdy rose."

For those unaware it is a hybrid fragrant tea rose with 100 to 150 pink and apricot petals.

She further shared, “It was hybridized by a Frenchman in France and brought over here about two years ago.”

What Stewart likes about her flower, she revealed, “I particularly like this one for the complexity of the petals."

She explained, “It’s like a cinquefoil, they call it, five centers. And it’s very curly in the center. It ranges from almost an orange and pink at the center to a really beautiful pink on the outside.”

During the conversation Christiansen recalled a book he read about plant personalities noting, “Wisteria grows and grows and grows, and you can never stop it.”

Then he asked, "Who do I know that’s like that?”

Stewart quickly responded with a laugh, “I’m a wisteria.”
