Steve Belichick quits UNC football as investigation into program culture concludes

Steve Belichick has resigned as North Carolina’s defensive coordinator as the university concludes an internal investigation into the football programme under his father, head coach Bill Belichick.

UNC announced the resignation on Thursday alongside findings from its investigation, which it said “determined that certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina's values and standards of conduct.”

“These actions were isolated in scope and not a systemic failure,” the university said, adding that corrective measures were underway.

According to ESPN, the university did not specifically connect Steve Belichick, 39, or former general manager Michael Lombardi, who resigned earlier this month, to the conduct examined in the investigation.

Belichick will officially leave UNC on October 27 after his medical leave, which began August 6, concludes.

Separately, UNC players Keeyun Chapman and C.J. Sadler face charges following a Tuesday traffic stop.

Chapman was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and has been suspended indefinitely, while Sadler was charged with speeding.
