Justin Sourdif lands eight-year, $50.8 million deal with Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals have signed forward Justin Sourdif to an eight-year, $50.8 million contract following a breakout season in the NHL.

The long-term deal was completed just hours before the deadline for players to sign eight-year contracts, the team announced.

Sourdif, 24, joined Washington from the Florida Panthers during the 2025 off-season after appearing in only four NHL games previously.

The Richmond, BC, native played 78 games for the Capitals during the 2025-26 season, recording 15 goals and 35 points while finishing with a plus-17 rating.

“Justin is a good young forward who has continued to develop steadily throughout his career. He is versatile and demonstrated his ability to play an important forward role for our team whenever the opportunity arose last season,” Capitals general manager Chris Patrick said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to sign him to a long-term contract and look forward to seeing him continue to elevate his game alongside our veteran core and our young group of players.”

The Panthers originally selected Sourdif in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
