Legendary Canadian heavyweight boxer George Chuvalo dies at 89

Canadian boxing icon George Chuvalo has passed away at the age of 89. Renowned worldwide as one of the toughest heavyweights in the history of the sport, Chuvalo carved out a legendary career defined by unmatched resilience and his famous "iron chin".

Throughout a punishing professional career that spanned from 1956 to 1978, Chuvalo fought an elite roster of boxing titans—including Joe Frazier, George Foreman, and two epic, grueling bouts against Muhammad Ali.

Despite absorbing devastating blows from the sport’s hardest punchers, remarkably, Chuvalo was never once knocked down in any of his 93 professional bouts. He retired with a stellar record of 73 wins—including 64 by knockout—18 losses, and two draws.

Beyond his exploits inside the ring, Canada's quintessential "fighting Irishman" earned profound respect for his immense grace and courage navigating immense personal tragedies later in life.
