Pierce Brosnan teases a 'left-field' choice for the next 'James Bond'

Pierce Brosnan is hinitng at a "left-field" selection by the James Bond producers, looking for the next actor to step in as 007.

As the franchise has been hunting for a candidate for quite some time, the 73-year-old Irish actor, who played the titular character in four previous films, shared his suggestion that James Bond producers could choose someone "unknown."

Brosnan said in a recent interview with The Times, "There are lots of good hats in the ring and lots of great actors."

"I see it. I follow it," he revealed.

But in Brosnan's opinion, "they could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us knows about."

And when Brosnan was asked to name an actor who he sees taking the baton from Daniel Craig in the upcoming James Bond films, he played coy.

"I wouldn't pick anyone," the actor remarked.

Brosnan explained, "My wife told me not to say anything, and I've said too much.”

He continued, "Because once I say something it goes everywhere and I get hanged."

For those who are unaware, Brosnan took over the 007 role from Timothy Dalton and played it from 1995 to 2002.

The films released under the James Bond franchise's flag were GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

He then handed over the baton to Daniel Craig.
