Theo James starrer ‘The Gentlemen’ season 2 suffers major setback
Theo James starred in the Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’
The Gentlemen season 2 has seen a decline in its UK audience compared with the Netflix crime drama’s first season, according to official viewing figures.
The second season of Guy Ritchie’s series premiered on Netflix on September 3, with the first episode attracting 3 million British viewers during its first week.
This, however, is a 15% drop from the debut episode of The Gentlemen season 1, which had 3.5 million UK viewers when it premiered in March 2024.
Additionally, the UK viewing figures differ from Netflix’s own reporting system, which measures views rather than individual viewers and Netflix’s figures also showed a decline compared with the first season.
According to previously reported Netflix data, The Gentlemen season 2 recorded 6.7 million views during its first four days of release.
The series managed to bag the third spot on Netflix’s English-language TV list for the week of August 31 to September 6.
The audience decline comes despite the series making headlines after it was speculated that former working royal, Meghan Markle could join the cast.
Markle’s potential involvement in the series has not been confirmed or denied by Netflix or the show’s team.
The trend also reflects a wider challenge for returning Netflix shows, with several established series attracting smaller audiences than their first seasons.
Despite the drop in UK viewers, The Gentlemen has already been renewed for season 3.
The series stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits his father’s country estate and discovers that it forms part of a large cannabis operation.
