Spice Girls slammed over teased announcement, then disappointment

Spice Girls fans are frustrated after the group teased a "major announcement," only to reveal new merchandise instead of a reunion. 

The band built anticipation with an Instagram post ahead of a scheduled reveal on Wednesday, leaving fans hopeful for some major news.

Instead, the group announced a new box set called "The Singles Collection," set for release on November 6. The collection includes vinyl and CD sets featuring all of the group's singles together for the first time, along with unreleased demos and B-sides.

Fans quickly took to the commentss many joking about getting their hopes up for a reunion tour or major announcement, only to be met with a merchandise drop. 

“*Puts credit card back in purse,*" someone dropped a comment, with another joking, “This meeting could have been an email.”

Several fans poked fun at how far they'd mentally prepared to go financially and going out of the way to save for concert tickets.

“This was it? I literally was looking up part time jobs to buy tickets for tour,” while another wrote, “Negotiating with my husband on my price cap for Spice Girls tickets today was for NOTHING.”

“I’ll tell you what I want! What I really really want…..A TOUR WITH ALL 5!!!” another comment read, referencing the lyrics to the group’s debut 1996 single, Wannabe.

Much of the frustration stems from continued hope that the Spice Girls — Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Mel C — might reunite for a tour. 

Reports earlier this year revealed the group had scrapped plans for special anniversary performances marking 30 years since their hit Wannabe, after failing to reach an agreement.
