Algeria cuts ties with UAE after years of rising tensions

Algeria has reportedly cut diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates after a permanent rupture in relations that cannot be fixed through negotiation-a move that comes after months of growing tensions between the two countries, according to the Algerian state media on Thursday.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said his country’s relations with all Gulf states were transparent in contrast to its tension relations with the UAE last year.

He further underlined that ties with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar as brotherly while veiled accusation of meddling in Algeria’s internal affairs and intended to destabilize it.

Meanwhile, tensions intensified further in February when Algeria began the process of terminating an air services agreement with the UAE that was signed in Abu Dhabi in May 2013.

Tebboune has frequently called the UAE in speeches as a micro-state or statelet aggressively destabilizing the region. He further said a break in diplomatic relations would have occurred long ago had Algeria not sought to avoid deepening divisions.

“We want them to stay away, so that blood does not flow in our country, Tebboune continued.”
