Apple’s new CEO John Ternus says iPhone is the ideal device for AI

Apple CEO John Ternus took the stage for the first time as the company’s chief executive Wednesday, receiving a standing ovation that lasted at least 30 seconds.

Ternus used his first iPhone launch as CEO to lay out Apple’s vision for artificial intelligence and argue that the iPhone is ideally positioned to become a hub for AI.

“We’re going to continue changing the world in ways we can’t even imagine today,” Ternus said in brief opening remarks.

His presentation echoed the approach used by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs when he introduced the original iPhone, first describing what an ideal device should offer before presenting Apple’s product as the answer.

“Now, if you were designing the ideal version of this hub from scratch, how would you do it? Well, first, you would want something that is always with you, deeply personal, and able to bring intelligence to the moments when it matters most,” Ternus said.

He then pointed to the iPhone as the device capable of delivering those experiences.

“Today, we’re going to take these experiences even further with the next generation of iPhone,” Ternus added.

The remarks put artificial intelligence at the centre of Ternus’s first major iPhone launch since taking over as Apple CEO.
