Doja Cat shares untold story behind her ‘demonic’ image: 'People believe I have demons'
Doja Cat opens up about the dark chapter of her past
Doja Cat has finally broken her silence on claims that she has "demonic” and "evil" tendencies, confessing her past addiction to cocaine.
The Grammy-winning artist, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, took to her TikTok account on Monday and opened up about the topic that has scared her for a prolonged period.
She told her 29.1 million followers on social media that she has finally decided to address the claims, as she was taught in therapy she "should do something that scares [her] every day if [she's] on any journey to healing"
The 30-year-old popstar continued, "So a lot of people on the Internet believe that I'm demonic - that I have demons - that I have evil in me."
Doja clarified the only reality about the rumors is that she can give knowledge about demons and evil spirits.
However, Doja labelled addiction to drugs and social media along with undiagnosed mental health issues as demonic tendencies.
She explained, "The best example, from my experience, is using the Internet as a means of validation to the negative thoughts in my head, which were then brought on by drinking alcohol."
"I've never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but ... alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with," Doja admitted, noting, "I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems."
The Say So singer then advised her fans that it's "not good to pair these two things together": addiction to seeking validation on the internet and drug or alcohol addiction.
In a following clip, she noted, "I have struggled with cocaine ... I think could have been like eight years ago, but I'm well past that, so ... thank God."
Doja pointed at another "'extreme issue" that sometimes goes unnoticed that is "undiagnosed" or "uncared" mental illness "paired with social media."
She then noted, "If people are commenting stuff that makes you hate yourself or ... validates the stuff that you already hate about yourself, just know that first of all, you probably need help - second of all, they probably need help."
The songstress emphasized that a person spreading negative energy under someone's post says more about them and the "demons" they carry.
"Once you understand that the person is doing it out of their own personal - dare I say demons - it becomes more sad than it becomes angering and irritating," Doja added.
She concluded her remarks advising, "Think about what you're saying; think about if it's a projection. Be clear in your words - this isn't a place where people want to be clear ... not everything is the truth; not everything is so cut and dry."
