Rob Reiner’s son Jake breaks silence on parents’ relationship with jailed brother
Rob Reiner’s son Jake speaks out for first time since parents’ deaths
Jake Reiner has spoken publicly for the first time since the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were allegedly murdered by their youngest son, Nick Reiner.
In an interview with ABC News, Jake, a local news reporter, described the past eight months as a “living nightmare” and recalled learning about his parents’ deaths from his sister Romy.
“Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can't find mom.’ I immediately went into shock,” he recalled during the sit-down interview.
“As a reporter, I did it for 10 years, I came up on crime scenes all the time, but when it’s your crime scene, a crime scene at your childhood home, it’s like the most surreal thing I've ever seen.”
Jake said that even in Nick's long-documented struggle with addiction and mental health, his parents remained committed to supporting all three of their children, despite Nick’s struggles.
“My parents had unconditional love for all three of us,” he said, adding that they “never stopped wanting to help him” and “never stopped helping him.”
Nick's troubles even inspired the 2015 film Being Charlie, which he himself wrote and Rob directed.
Rob, the acclaimed director behind The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and This Is Spinal Tap, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles last December.
Nick has since been charged with the murders and recently pleaded not guilty. He remains jailed without bail while his attorneys seek access to his trust fund to help finance his legal defense.
Jake declined to comment on his brother’s request to access the money.
