Lindsay Clancy trial: Jury deliberates over fate of mom accused of killing her children
Lindsay Clancy’s trial attracted much attention on social media due to various reasons
After more than a month of trial, both sides — prosecution and defense — have given their closing arguments.
The verdict is in the hands of a Massachusetts jury — comprising 9 women and 3 men — who, according to the BBC, are now deliberating.
The decision could have three possibilities.
Initially, a first-degree murder charge, a lesser charge, or not guilty.
After more than a month of trial, both sides — prosecution and defense — have given their closing arguments.
A Massachusetts jury — 9 women and 3 men — now deliberates, the BBC reports.
The decision could have three possibilities.
A first-degree murder charge, a lesser charge, or not guilty.
In the state of Massachusetts, a conviction of first-degree murder invites life imprisonment and no parole.
Second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter convictions carry prison time.
However, if the jury found Clancy not guilty, that does not mean she goes scot-free.
Instead, she would be committed to a psychiatric hospital and would have the possibility of remaining there for life.
It is worth noting that Clancy did not deny killing her three children in her home in 2023.
However, her legal team defended her by citing her mental health, arguing that she had severe postpartum psychosis then and that made her legally not responsible for what she did.
Prosecutors, on the other hand, painted a strikingly different picture.
They said Clancy acted intentionally and was fully aware of her actions in killing her children.
