BBC takes aim at Duchess of Sussex as EastEnders hunts for 'Meghan'

In a nod to social media jokes about the Duchess of Sussex’s showbiz return, BBC Studios has issued a casting call for a new series regular on EastEnders bearing the name "Meghan."

Meghan has been described as "confident, gorgeous and ready to cause chaos."

It comes amid reports that Meghan, the wife of Britain's Prince Harry, may be returning ‌to acting with a role in the series "The Gentlemen."

According to the casting breakdown, the role calls for a woman of approximately 30 years of age who will serve as a senior staff member behind a bar, likely the show's legendary pub, The Vic.

Her entrance into Albert Square is likened to "an Essex bombshell walking into the 'Love Island' villa."

The character is portrayed as "funny, fearless and fiercely loyal," someone who "never backs down from a confrontation" and has "spent her whole life proving she can handle whatever is thrown at her."

While "warm, charismatic, effortlessly charming," Meghan is described as "equally capable of throwing someone out on their ear if they cross a line."

According to GB News, the character will be Gemma's daughter and a member of the Hawkins family, most of whom made their debut on the show last week..

Meanwhile, the Hollywood Reporter said ​the duchess was in advanced talks to ​appear in a third season of the series ⁠created by Guy Ritchie. Another Hollywood publication, ​Deadline, said the discussions were "hypothetical," given that the show ​has not yet been renewed for a third season.
