JK Rowling surprises critics with major clarification to her gender dysphoria debate
JK Rowling issued a rather shocking statement regarding gender dysphoria
JK Rowling has left many of her critics stunned after clarifying someone living with gender dysphoria should be allowed to undergo sex-change surgery.
The Harry Potter author has been a key voice in the gender debate and is firm in her belief that humans cannot change gender.
Gender dysphoria is defined as a deep distress someone feels because they believe their internal gender identity does not match their sex. It is considered a mental disorder rather than a physical illness and not all transgender people suffer from it.
Many of Rowling’s opinions have been distorted by trans activists as they have now resorted to claiming she is softening her position due to the release of the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO.
During a fresh debate on social media site X and responding to a now-deleted tweet, Rowling stated, "I’ve always believed that adults with intractable gender dysphoria may only find peace after surgery and taking hormones."
In her famous 2020 essay setting out her beliefs, she said, "I know transition will be a solution for some gender dysphoric people, although I’m also aware through extensive research that studies have consistently shown that between 60-90% of gender dysphoric teens will grow out of their dysphoria."
Rowling also spoke of knowing a transgender woman who was older than her, admitting she "always found it hard to think of her as anything other than a woman."
At the time, she was setting out her opposition to the SNP's controversial gender recognition legislation that would have simplified the process by which someone could legally change gender. She added, "Being older, though, she went through a long and rigorous process of evaluation, psychotherapy and staged transformation.”
Despite her comments, trans activists have insisted she hates trans people. One responded to her latest post, claiming Rowling has "made it your life's mission to ensure [trans people] don't find peace...". And another replied, "this makes everything that she has ever done even worse like, she was fully aware of this and still made sure trans people had the worst life possible while pursuing these goals."
