UK braces for thunderstorms and flash flooding as yellow warnings issued
Warnings of heavy downpours and flash flooding have been issued after weeks of extreme heat
Yellow thunderstorm warnings have been issued across parts of the UK with heavy rain anticipated to cause flash floods and transit delays.
According to the Met Office, warnings will come into effect across northern England, Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland later on Wednesday.
The Met Office has warned residents that businesses and homes could face heavy flooding, transport services are likely to be delayed and power cuts are expected.
On Wednesday, the yellow weather warnings are expected to affect Northern Ireland. On the contrary, parts of Northeast Scotland including Aberdeen from 14:00 until 21:00 on Wednesday.
Furthermore, it also includes parts of the North of England including Manchester and Newcastle from 19:00 until 10:00 on Thursday.
The Met Office has stated that lightning, hail and thunder are also predicted in the hit zones with up to 30 mm of rain expected within a few hours in parts of Northeast Scotland and Northern Ireland.
A mix of sun and showers will be seen across many parts of the UK along with heavy downpours on Wednesday. Meanwhile, drought officials have announced that 71.3% of England is in drought while parts of eastern Scotland are experiencing a severe water shortage.
Additionally, the significant shift in weather may bring some relief to people though the Environment Agency has warned that prolonged heavy rainfall is necessary to mitigate the current situation.
