‘Ice Princess’ director grieves Hayden Panettiere’s tragic death

The former child star died unexpectedly on August 16, 2026, the news was confirmed by her representatives to ABC news. She starred in the Disney’s Ice Princess, in 2005 when she was nearly 15 years old.
Now, speaking with Variety, on August 18, 2026, the director of the movie, Tim Fywell shared a written tribute, in which he recalled the late actress’ vibrant performance and her dedication towards work, stating, “It was really upsetting to hear yesterday of the death of Hayden Panettiere at the age of 36.”
“I remember a brave, sparky, dedicated young actress who lit up the set in rehearsals and then the screen with her vibrant talent. Michelle Trachtenberg, Hayden’s co-star in the movie, and she were an amazing pair," he added, also referring to Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Hayden's bestie's role in the movie while they started as rivals. Michelle passsed away at the age of 39 in February 2025.
Recalling the time on the set, Tim said, “Plucky and determined and perfectionist, spending hours practicing her skating and utterly focused on getting every acting take spot-on and truthful. Which she did.” He continued, “kooky, fun, with an infectious laugh and her brilliant sad-funny comic timing.”
The two late actresses, Hayden and Michelle are remembered warmly by the director. “In what was often a tough and technically complicated shoot, and my first Hollywood movie, they were delightful to work with and great to have around,” he said.
“I remember them both with huge affection, how they were 20 odd years ago, at that relatively uncomplicated time of their lives, two shining talents, gone far too soon,” he further added.
