Starlink partners with 48 airlines for in-flight Wi-Fi expansion: What passengers need to know
The partnership aims to provide high-speed inflight Wi-Fi for passengers
SpaceX’s Starlink is reportedly expanding its in-flight Wi-Fi network through major partnerships with 48 airlines, marking a significant move to bring faster and more stable internet connection for passengers on flights around the world.
Under the new deal, Starlink’s contracts cover more than 7,000 aircraft already set to be equipped and installed.
The most recent addition is Royal Air Maroc which is the first African carrier to bring the service to its full fleet by 2027 after growth from just two partners at the end of 2025 and the addition of 23 new deals in 2026.
Prominent names like American Airlines, United and Emirates are on board for highest speeds over older Wi-Fi though netizens detailed concerns regarding added aircraft weight and occasional outages.
The airline has ratified accord to bring high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi to its entire fleet by next year. Meanwhile, AST SpaceMobile’s satellite to phone trials at 200 Mbps from cruising altitudes, announcing early to block rivals.
On social platform X, people are already sharing distinct views over the current announcement with one user writing, “ Now that's an impressive business plan! Wow! Well done. And again, kinda obvious because it's a really good connection almost everywhere.”
Second added, “ Starlink signing up 48 airlines and over 7,000 planes is a massive market takeover. Old-school in-flight Wi-Fi providers just got subbed off permanently.”
Starkink’s partnership globally will cover more than 7,000 aircraft that are already equipped, undergoing installation or under contract.
