Carly Simon showers daughter Sally with love in new album

Carly Simon recently reflected on how her divorce from James Taylor affected their children.

For those unaware, Simon and Taylor welcomed two children together: a daughter, Sarah “Sally” Maria Taylor and a son, Benjamin “Ben” Simon Taylor, during their marriage which lasted ten years. They tied the knot in November 1972, separated in September 1981, and their divorce was finalized in 1983.

The 83-year-old American musician and singer-songwriter released her new album Comes in Waves on Friday, August 14.

Her album has a fifth song titled Mother of Pearl about her daughter Sally, as she gives a rare peek into what their family life looked like when she was going through a divorce from Taylor.

She sings, “Sally, oh, Sarah, another song with your name / You’ve gone around the roses, a mustang became / A boat in the harbor that’s called Sally Mae / And oh girl, my girl, to me you’re my goddess, you’re my mother of pearl.”

“I can see you at 7, a child of divorce / How can it be that we gave you no choice? / It was your job and Ben’s to drown out all the noise,” the Anticipation songstress crooned.

It is pertinent to mention that Carly Simon dropped Comes in Waves after eighteen years, as her last studio album was 2008’s The Kind of Love.
