Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' sets new career high at global box office

Christopher Nolan's new film The Odyssey hits another milestone as it has broken his own highest-grossing record 14 years later.

The film starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron has become one of Nolan's best-ever openings upon its release last month.

The Odyssey earned $1.104 billion globally in almost one month in cinemas, breaking the previous record set by Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises which earned $1.085 billion back in 2012.

Nolan's The Dark Knight grossed $1 billion in 2009 while Oppenheimer earned $975 million, just shy of the milestone.

The film based on Homer’s epic poem has also become IMAX's highest-grossing domestic release with $147.3 million.

The Odyssey is expected to cross the recent record further, as it is all set to hit theaters in China on Friday.

Along with The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also getting screened in full swing, bringing ticket sales to a new height since COVID-19.

This year, five films have already been $1 billion movies so far, including Michael, Toy Story 5, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
