Michael Johnston pours cold water on 'Obsession' sequel hopes
Michael Johnton, however, jokingly pitched an 'Obsession' sequel
Obsession, in addition to Backrooms, has become a surprising hit so far in 2026.
But the actor Michael Johnston, who portrays Bear, poured cold water on hopes of a sequel anytime soon.
Appearing on I've Never Said This Before, he said, “Look, it’s a magical world. Anything can happen. I would love that."
The actor continued, “I will say, there’s no plan for that. Also, I don’t know how many people would want Bear back. I think the general consensus is that he kind of got what he deserved.”
Despite the sequel not happening anytime soon, Johnston has an idea for the second installment: a film focusing on his character Bear, whose parents began investigating his disapperance but made the same mistake of stepping on the willow.
Though the actor said he meant the sequel pitch in jest.
Despite the joke, Johnston said he is excited about the film's writer/director, Curry Barker, taking the next step to expand the franchise.
“Curry’s idea of having it be an anthology series is really, really cool,” the actor said. “All different stories. I’d love to see a wish gone right.”
Obsession, meanwhile, was a breakout indie horror success, made on a shoestring $750,000 budget, and went on to draw $400 million globally.
