Why ex James Bond casting director rejects Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner for 007 role?
The former casting chief reveals what next James Bond must have
After several A-listers weighed in for who they want to see take over the role, former James Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams also shared her opinion on who should play the next 007.
Debbie had been linked with the franchise for 40 years before retiring in 2021 after the No Time to Die release.
After she helped cast Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig, Debbie believes the next Bond should not be a well-known actor like Jacob Elordi or Callum Turner.
"I don't want to see any of them as James Bond because we now know so much about them," Debbie told The Independent.
The casting director further emphasized that Daniel Craig's successor should be "somebody who is completely out of the blue."
Debbie noted that the first two stars, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, , respectively, who played 007 were not very famous at the time of casting as well as Daniel was not a "household name" either.
While recalling Daniel's casting, she said, “He was such an unpopular choice. Nobody supported it. Not the studio. Not the director ... He thought, ‘I’m going to show you bastards,’ and he did. And everybody went, ‘Oh my god, isn’t he wonderful?’ So don’t ask the people who they want, because they won’t know.”
It is pertinent to mention that Amazon MGM has announced that the search for the next James Bond is in the process and the Bond movie team is already working on the next movie.
