He is playing a first-time congressional candidate, and to prepare for the role, the actor studied former West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.

Speaking at the premiere of Voicemails for Isabelle in Hollywood, Gage revealed he studied former West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin while preparing for the role.

“I’ve watched Joe Manchin, who was running for Congress in West Virginia, forever,” he told Variety.

In addition, Gage has another politician for inspiration: former U.S. president Barack Obama.

“He’s been like the template of who I’ve been watching, but a lot of people that I admire, like Obama—not as much Spencer Pratt—more Obama vibes.”

Notably, the reboot of Prison Break will center on the same universe as the original show.

However, the forthcoming series will have a new cast, and Emily Browning and Drake Rodger have already been roped in.

As far as the storyline is concerned, Gage said, “It’s gritty and it’s dark and it’s scary."

“We definitely pay homage to the old series, but it’s a very new take on it, and Elgin has such a personal connection to the story and a personal take on it that is very different."

He continued, "So it’s a right balance of not trying to recreate the magic of what was the original show, and it’s on Hulu, too. It’s not Fox, so we can get really gritty on this one.”

It is unclear when Hulu's Prison Break will be released.
