Tim Allen has finally confirmed that he was reluctant to mark his return to Toy Story 5.

For those unaware, Allen is playing the role of Buzz Lightyear in the 2026 American animated adventure comedy-drama film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. The film has an ensemble cast including Tom Hanks, Keanu Reeves, Joan Cusack, Greta Lee, Annie Potts, Bad Bunny, Conan O'Brien, and others.

Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos interviewed Allen and Hanks, where the 72-year-old American actor and comedian asked why he was “a little more hesitant” to make his comeback for a sequel to the beloved animated film series.

Responding to the question, Allen confessed that he had second thoughts due to various reasons.

“Well, 'cause I—,” he said, but Hanks, who is playing Woody in the film, jumped in and laughingly asked him to “tell the truth.”

“I'd have to be with him again,” the Shifting Gears star quipped, referring to the 69-year-old American actor and filmmaker.

Hanks then went on to share that his senior co-star did not want any loopholes in the story before giving his seal of approval to Toy Story 5.

“He's, like, ‘Well, let me — get a couple things straight here. I wanna make sure that the rising arc of the Act One is gonna pay off in the denouement that will come at the…,'” he jokingly unveiled.

Allen said he really “loved” the third installment in the franchise, but he found the fourth “so intense.”

It is pertinent to mention that Toy Story 5 is set to hit theaters in the United States on June 19, 2026.
